Work Continues on Washington Avenue Road Project

Atlas Excavating will be back on-site Wednesday morning to continue the Washington Avenue road improvement project.  Atlas Excavating has been off-site for several weeks while utility work by Vectren Energy and AT&T was in progress. Now that the utility work is completed roadwork will be more visible to the community.

Mayor Chris McBarnes emphasizes the city’s commitment to this project saying, “Each step of the Washington Avenue reconstruction has a specific purpose. The utility update component has been time-consuming but vital to the completion of this project. It has not been as highly visible as the work being done by Atlas but has been every bit as necessary.  Rest assured that progress is being made and we continue to move forward on this project.”

Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe reminds everyone to pay attention to road closure signs and asks for everyone’s cooperation to help ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians and the construction crews. Closed portions of the construction zone should not be used for through traffic but are limited to those who live or work on Washington Avenue. Work on Phase One is expected to be completed this fall.
