The City of Frankfort announced that it has received the results of the necropsies performed on Houston, Huron, Elliott and the chickens that recently died at TPA Park, stating that the results indicated that each animal suffered from a variety of illnesses which could be attributed to age, general infection or other natural causes as determined by a team of veterinarians at Purdue University.<\/p>\n

According to the announcement, the veterinary team did not find evidence of contagious diseases, bacterial infections or bird flu, and their examination reportedly concluded that no evidence of foul play or neglect on the part of the City of Frankfort Parks Department staff could be found.<\/p>\n

The City stated that a comprehensive review of all petting zoo operations, including animal health, nutrition, habitat and management practices was conducted, and an additional review will also include an evaluation of the long-term effectiveness of the TPA Park Zoo as an amenity with consideration of cost and environmental factors.<\/p>\n

“We are relieved to have the results of the necropsies and to know that there was no indication of neglect or foul play in the passing of these animals,” Mayor Judy Sheets said. “We are committed to transparency and providing the public with accurate information. We have learned from this experience and are taking proactive steps to prevent future incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n

The City extended a statement of gratitude to the veterinary team for their examination as well as the community for their patience and understanding during the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been consulting with experts in animal care, veterinary medicine and park management to see what the next steps will be,” Sheets said. “We have been evaluating our funding and resource allocation to ensure that we can adequately support the TPA Park Zoo.”<\/p>\n
