Maurice E. Bombei, 86, was called home at 1:50 p.m. January 25, 2018.\u00a0 He had resided at Clinton House the past four years.\u00a0 Maurice, the oldest of eight children, was born in Hendricks County on August 17, 1931 to John & Rose (Calbert) Bombei.\u00a0 He spent his youth on his family\u2019s dairy farm, where he learned a strong work ethic.\u00a0 He graduated from Amo High School in 1949.\u00a0 He married Peggy Jo Thompson in Plainfield Indiana on August 27, 1950 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2017.\u00a0 He eventually moved his family to Clinton County and worked for 7-Up Bottling in West Lafayette.\u00a0 He later went to work at Fairfield Manufacturing until he retired.\u00a0 Maurice\u2019s true love came from his woodworking.\u00a0 Enjoying the water all his life, he built a speed boat which the family enjoyed using many weekends at Lake Freeman.\u00a0 He leaves behind a legacy with his kitchen cabinets and beautiful furniture throughout Indiana and beyond.\u00a0 Besides woodworking, he enjoyed traveling in his RV.\u00a0 Although Parkinson\u2019s Disease had made it difficult to speak, hearing stories and seeing pictures of his great grandchildren\u2019s latest antics always bought a smile to his face.<\/p>\n
Maurice is survived by three daughters: Linda Foster of Lafayette, Sandy (Steve) Miller of Frankfort, and Debbie (Randy) Grogg of Fort Wayne.\u00a0 Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 15\u00a0great grandchildren, brothers include Jack Bombei of Plano, Tex., David (Patty) Bombei of Greencastle, sisters, Ruth (Ron) Thornburgh of Crossville, Ten., and Janet Staley of Greencastle.\u00a0He was preceded in death by brothers, Dickie & Robert Bombei and sister, Martha Cline.<\/p>\n
The family would like to thank Clinton House and Great Lakes Hospice for the loving care and compassion they gave Maurice during the years he resided with them.<\/p>\n
