13th Annual Grandma’s Cook-Off At Genda’s

The 13th Annual Grandma’s Cook-Off was held Saturday, September 10, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. 25 entrants competed in four categories: Soups, Sides, Main dish and Desserts. The winners of each category took home $300 cash and a trophy apron.

Each contestant brought their favorite “Grandma’s Dish” along with the recipe. The blind Judging began at 2pm as the contestants and family members watched, trying to gauge the judges’ favorites and maybe get a glimpse into who may be taking home the prizes.

After the judges had tasted all the dishes in their categories, all in attendance were allowed to grab a plate and utensils and share in fellowship and sampling all the delicious dishes! This part of the competition has always been held in high regard, because that is why grandma cooked our favorite dishes, so the family could gather around the table to eat and share in memories and time together.

As the sampling wrapped up, the envelopes were presented to Pat Day and Mark Genda to announce the winners. This year’s winners were: Soup – Lois Richardson, Bell Pepper Soup; Side Dish – Gloria Hite, Special Cheese Ball; Main Dish – Rhonda Harrison, Mammer’s Cabbage Rolls; and Dessert – Jan Gill, Hoosier Peanut Butter Pie.
