Phyllis J. Layton Douglass, 90, of Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community. She was born July 23, 1928, in Clinton County, to Donald and Ida (Merrill) Layton. On October 26, 1947, Phyllis married Robert E. Douglass; he preceded her in death on July 9, 2015.
In 1946, Phyllis graduated from Mulberry High School. Phyllis was a homemaker and had worked at dime stores, restaurants, Del Monte, and Jules L. Simon throughout her life. She was a member of East Side Christian Church, Home Extension Homemakers for over 52 years, and Good Sam Campers since 1978. Phyllis loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed volunteering with the Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Sunday school. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting, making many baby sweaters and blankets, gardening, tending her flowers beds, and playing cards with family and friends.
Surviving Phyllis are her children, Steven (Rebecca) Douglass, of Frankfort, and Andrea (Jeff) Battcher, of Thorntown; grandchildren, Lacy, Jake, Jesse, Michael, Alex, Aaron, and Brianna; six great grandchildren, Justin, Patton, Sage, Draven, Lilly, and Destiny; brother, Bill (Lora) Layton, of Mulberry; sister, Sue Good, of Mulberry; sister-in-law, Geneva Layton, of Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sister-in-law, Jesse Layton, Don and Maxine Layton, and John Layton; sister and brother-in-law, Irma and Charles Schiery; brother-in-law, Robert Good; and nephews, Jim Layton and Jeff Good.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Funeral service to honor Phyllis will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Harness officiating.
