In a typical High School graduation ceremony the Valedictorian, Salutatorian and often the Senior Class President are the only ones to speak.
The Crossing Graduation Saturday gave each Graduate the opportunity to speak to an intimate circle of Teachers, Administrators, Crossing Board and the student’s immediate and extended family. The intimate setting allowed each student to reflect on their time at the Crossing School and the school’s impact on their life.
21 Students received High School diplomas Saturday afternoon. One student said “I thought I would never make it”. Another said “What I thought was impossible …is real”.
Parents, Grandparents, brothers and sisters in the company of teachers and administrators heard each student’s special story of struggles, victories, thanks and growth.
Crossing head administrator Marissa Mills said “High School Graduation is meant for the Graduates. I felt like today was for the graduate and I’m very grateful for family, friends and staff who reminded each graduate how special their life is”
Teacher Zach Golden shared his feelings about the graduation: “Your life may have just begun and life may not be easy but never give up hope. You have made it this far and are capable of so much more.”
The graduation setting of small intimate groups allowed each of the 21 students to open up to teachers, family members and friends to speak about growth, maturity, courage, genuine thanks and personal victories along the way.
On the wall at the Crossing School reads, “Core Values: Relationships, Empowerment, Love, Integrity and Truth.”
Many seemed to feel the day was “a great day of celebration… meaningful, creative, personal and safe” said Dennis Mills, former Frankfort Middle School teacher and Crossing Volunteer.
