Council Adds Finishing Touch On Utility Agreement to 65

The Frankfort City Council unanimously passed a resolution to approve an interlocal agreement by and among the city of Frankfort, Indiana, Clinton County, Indiana, The Clinton County Building Corporation and the Utility Service Board of the City of Frankfort, Indiana to support certain sewage and waterworks infrastructure improvements Tuesday night.

What this does is this officially paves the way for the long-awaited project of having wastewater and water services from County Road 450 West at Jefferson all the way out to just past the interchange at Interstate 65 and State Road 28.

“I think this will come to be known as one of the more momentous occasions of this council,” said Frankfort City Councilman Jim Moyer. “Passing that interlocal agreement to extend the utilities out to 65 and beyond.”

Moyer said this will go for a lot of people.

“It’s good not just for the city, not just for the county, but I think it’s good for the whole area,” said Moyer. “It’s a wonderful example of cooperation between city and county which we’ve seen about four or five times different instances in the last 10 years where we’ve gotten a lot accomplished.”

The Clinton County Commissioners, Clinton County Council and City of Frankfort Utility Service Board on May 20. The Clinton County Building Corporation approved the resolution Tuesday morning.

County Council President Alan Dunn said the project will be done on the south side of 28, go under the interchange stopping short of Fickle and encompass all four corners at 65 and 28. Dunn added the project would likely be done very late in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Cost of the project is $14,116,000, including $11,116,000 for construction and the other $3 million for non-construction or “soft costs”.

On WILO’s Partyline program Tuesday morning, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shan Sheridan was asked if we should anticipate any announcements before the project is completed.

Sheridan’s replay was simply, “Yes. You should anticipate an announcement soon.”

Current businesses located at the interchange are Good To Go, M&K Trucking, Performance Ag and Wilson Trailers. Subway is also located in Good To Go.
