County Not-for-Profits in Need Should Contact United Way

Since receiving the $200,000 grant towards the COVID-19 Response Fund in May, the United Way for Clinton County is wanting to make Not-for-Profits in Clinton County aware of the grant and they can apply if their concerns revolve around COVID-19 related issues.

“Everybody has the opportunity to apply for the grant as long as they are not-for-profit or support a program in Clinton County,” said United Way for  Clinton County Executive Director Anita Stewart.

Besides Frankfort, the COVID-19 Grant supports the Clinton Central, Clinton Prairie and Rossville school districts which includes the towns of Colfax, Kirklin, Michigantown, Mulberry and Rossville. Through the COVID-19 Funds, $10,000 will help support families in Jefferson and Rossville through the YMCA Summer Food Program which will provide meals to kids with food disparities through August 5.

Stewart also said that United Way had heard of a need for the three county schools for food insecurities for their students during the summer. United Way was able to connect the three school superintendents in the area with Tristen Comegys, CEO of the Clinton County Family YMCA.

Comegys connected with the schools and as a team they were able to come up with a program that could feed the students in all three county schools for the summer months. She applied for the USDA grant and was approved for Mulberry and Colfax but was denied for Rossville and Clinton Prairie due to these areas not meeting the percentage of free and reduced lunches in their areas.

“Even though these areas were denied didn’t mean there still isn’t a big need in Jefferson and Rossville,” said Stewart. “That is where the COVID-19 Grant was able to provide financial support to the YMCA to help feed the students in these areas. This program will definitely help our families in the rural areas of our community”
