Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes has issued the following statement regarding Pearl Harbor Day:
With today marking the 76th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Governor Holcomb has directed flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in remembrance of this horrific day that took so many courageous service members’ lives and prompted our country’s involvement in WWII.
As we remember this fateful day more than a quarter of a century ago, we hold our veterans close in our hearts and prayers who fought and died at Pearl Harbor and all those brave souls who carried our country to ultimate victory overseas. My grandfather is a WWII veteran and a Purple Heart award recipient. He always has been and always will be my hero. May God bless our WWII veterans – and all veterans – who have given us our freedom.
We will always remember your sacrifices, courage, skill and patriotism with grateful hearts.
Mayor Chris McBarnes
