The Clinton County bowlers are honing their skills through practices, where they each bowl two games, and the local tournament, where each members bowled three games, to prepare for state tournaments. The state bowling tournament will commence on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 this year in Indianapolis, and the Special Olympics of Indiana has noted that bowling has become one of the most popular sports in the program, allowing for the Clinton County teams to enter competitive heats. The state tournament will host an assisted ramp event, singles event and unified 4-person team event.

The local tournament boasted a high turnout amongst the teams, and Crissy Earl, County Coordinator, highlighted AJ L for winning the good sportsmanship medal for actions taken during the tournament that exemplified the meaning of working as a team. All of the new jerseys that the bowlers sported during the tournament were purchased by the Rossville Lions Club, which Earl noted were a big hit with the bowlers.

The bowlers will continue practicing to hone their skills for the upcoming tournaments in the late fall season, but the bowlers will not be practicing on Halloween. Earl commented that the successes of the teams of the Clinton County Special Olympics would not be possible without the help of the volunteers, donors and supporters that keep the teams functioning.

“I just want to take a minute and say how grateful I am to my team of volunteers,” Earl wrote. “Without them, our athletes would not be thriving in our program like they are. Our volunteers wear many hats for our county, and most are also parents or mentors of our athletes. They give their time each week and go above and beyond behind the scenes. I am grateful for each and every one of you, and I appreciate you all very much. Our program is very blessed with dedicated people.”

Those seeking to join the bowling team are encouraged to reach out the Clinton County Indiana Special Olympics on Facebook for the spring and summer seasons. Earl stated that information will be posted on the Facebook page around April for the upcoming season once the fall season comes to a close.
