Inside INdiana Business is reporting that Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University have unveiled a new transfer agreement aimed at meeting a shortage of workers in sectors including homeland security and cybersecurity. The partnership, which will begin this fall, will allow students to complete their first two years and earn an associate degree at Ivy Tech, then complete the final two years and earn a bachelor’s degree at Vincennes.
Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann says the pilot agreement represents a new era of cooperation between the two institutions to meet the workforce needs of Indiana, and particularly in central Indiana.
“At Ivy Tech, we have a lot of associate degrees,” she says. “In fact, in this partnership, it’ll be criminal justice, homeland security, legal studies, cybersecurity, information technology support and informatics; all associate degrees which will transfer seamlessly into a Vincennes Homeland Security and Public Safety bachelor’s degree from our site.”
Students participating in the program will be able to take a combination of face-to-face, synchronous video, hybrid, and online classes for the VU degree. VU will use classrooms and labs at the Ivy Tech Indianapolis Lawrence campus for instruction in the final two years of the program.
The full-time track for the program will allow students to earn both degrees in four years, however Ivy Tech says part-time options will also be available. Ellspermann and VU President Chuck Johnson will detail more about the partnership this weekend on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick.
