The State Fire Marshall’s Office is on the scene of a devastating fire in downtown Frankfort. The fire is pretty well out at this point but has a few hot spots crews are working on.
WILO News spoke with Joe Root who is the owner of the building where the fire started who says he was at his office in Old Stoney when he got the call his building was on fire. He said his building will be a total loss. The wind did not help firefighters.
The blaze started shortly before 10 am this morning at T and R Grooming. The Lebanon Fire Department was called to help give the firefighters backup.
The Humane Society was on the scene and there were no animals injured. However, there is extensive damage to one of the murals in Veteran’s Park.
Power has been shut down to the area and officials urge to you to stay away from the area.
The Frankfort Community Public Library has been closed for the day due to its close proximity to the blaze.
We have learned a firefighter fell through a second story floor and had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Multiple reports say he is ok.
More updates as warranted live on WILO.
