The Community Schools of Frankfort Board of Education approved a new electrical sign to replace the old near the creek in front of Frankfort High School on Tuesday night. The cost of the sign is $55,700 and will come from Huston Electric in Kokomo.
“We want our taxpayers to know that it (the sign) didn’t come out of any of the $30 million,” said Superintendent Don DeWeese. “That was not only part of our savings but it was really our part of the savings that we used and we invested. It was interest.”
DeWeese acknowledged the price was high, but added “we feel the sign will be a good communication tool for us and also a good way of marketing and keeping our brand in front of people and keeping the public and our parents and students informed.”
Frankfort High School Principal Steve Edwards said the project has been approved by Frankfort Building Inspector Sam Payne and Clinton County Surveyor Dan Sheets.
DeWeese added it will take about six weeks for the sign, which will be two-sided, to be installed which puts it into early September.
On another note, the board gave DeWeese an unexpected honor for his work on the Frankfort High School renovation project.
“I walk out and see people that I was not expecting at the board meeting,” he said. “Superintendents are always prepared for everything and I was not prepared for that and I got very emotional.”
Several members of his family plus members of the public, including those who were instrumental in the renovation project, were in attendance for the presentation which was a Hot Dog mascot with a hard hat and tool belt.
CSF Board President Karen Sutton prefaced the award by reading the “Ode to Hot Dog Don”.
