Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Welcomes New K9 Officer

Deputy Jared Yoder and his new K9 Partner, Bary, graduated from a 6 week basic K9 Class, held at FMK9 in Niles Michigan. Deputy Yoder and K9 Bary will Join Sergeant Joey Mitchell (K9 Gunny) and Lieutenant Ryan Ashlock (K9 Chase) as the 3rd team to the Sheriff’s Office K9 unit.

Bary is a 14 month old Belgian Malinois imported from Holland. Like our other K9 teams, they are Nationally Certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association. They are certified in Narcotics Detection, suspect apprehension, tracking, area search, building searches as well as Article searches.

Sgt Joey Mitchell, the agency’s K9 unit supervisor, stated “I could not be more proud of Deputy Yoder and Bary! Deputy Yoder put the work in as a decoy for years, wearing bite suits, laying tracks etc to earn his spot in the unit. It has been a goal of mine to grow the unit for some time. When I started in the unit 15 years ago, I was the only dog handler in the county. Now, with the support of Sheriff Kelly, past Sheriffs, and the community, we have been able to grow our unit to 3 dogs. That makes 5 total in the County, including 2 with the Frankfort Police Department. Police K9’s are an important tool for patrol officers to be able to use on various scenes, so it is really awesome to watch a unit grow like ours has.”

Deputy Yoder and K9 Bary will begin working the road as a K9 team next week! Sheriff Kelly extends a huge Congratulations to the new addition, “I am excited to see the growth of our agency and the work that is ahead for Deputy Yoder and K9 Bary. This is a great addition to our agency and the community!”
