Possible Protests Have Kept Police on Patrol All Week

Frankfort Police were patrolling the downtown area Wednesday night following reports of protesters coming to Frankfort to possibly do damage to property and individuals.

Deputy Police Chief Scott Shoemaker said a couple of individuals found their way downtown. Following some conversations, the pair went on their way with no damage being done. No arrests were made.

“Our operational plan is we look at damage to life and property essentially,” said Shoemaker. “We had another wave of officers to be called in. We never did that. We were down there from about 7:30 until 11:30 last (Wednesday) night. Not once did we feel like we would need to elevate our response.”

Shoemaker added they been alerted every night this week about possible demonstrations.

“We as a police department do not agree with what happened to George Floyd,” said Shoemaker. “Everybody who watches that video and how many of us wanted it to stop. It’s a terrible thing to watch. We understand people are upset and we want people to be upset. But as a community we need to make sure our community stays safe.”
