On Wednesday, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation in Cincinnati, OH, our jail commissary vendor and elementary schools to assemble care packages for our soldiers deployed overseas.
Approximately 20 people, including inmates, staff and volunteers spent nearly an hour, packaging 250 individual packages! Combined Public Communications, our phone, commissary and video visitation provider donated the items being sent to the troops. This year we incorporated coffee, creamer, hard candy, ramen, beef sticks, playing cards, crosswords, fruit drinks and chap stick to send to our troops. Our Clinton Prairie and Clinton Central elementary school kids participated in making cards and letters to put inside the care packs as well!
We believe part of the rehabilitation process for inmates is learning how to give back. This community service opportunity gives the inmates a sense of pride and purpose for the upcoming holiday season. We would like to send a huge THANK YOU to our vendor, Combined Public Communications, Ken and Tina Martin with the Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation and our schools for making this possible! We also commend our inmates for their hard work today! Ken Martin and Sheriff Kelly were college roommates and played football together for the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds! We had a great time teaming up today for this worthwhile cause!!!
“It is a great reminder to all of us to appreciate the freedoms these men and women are overseas fighting for and protecting on our behalf. We are forever and always indebted to our soldiers who serve in our great military and this is a small token of our appreciation that we can do to remember all of our men and women deployed, not only during the holidays, but year round. We are thankful to team up with great organizations like the Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation to assist us in getting these items to our troops.” – Sheriff Rich Kelly
“This is an important day. It is important that we implement inmates into community service projects. It is important that we work beside them and mentor these men and women to promote an atmosphere of service and give back to those who give so much for us every single day. We are proud supporters of our military and we will do whatever we can to show them just how much they are appreciated! This was another successful year! A special thank you to all involved!” – Matron Ashley Kelly
