The Community Schools of Frankfort Board of Education officially bought 10 acres of farmland Tuesday night that is located behind Walmart.
“We now have a purpose for it,” said Frankfort Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda. “We thought lets go ahead and get it. Then, we’re going to have all 37 acres back there and be able to start planning the Career Tech Center.”
The Career Tech Center has been a much talked about project which would include students from all four schools in Clinton County — Clinton Central, Clinton Prairie, Frankfort and Rossville — and primarily be a place where those going to school there could learn a trade and become a productive member of the workforce.
Rhoda said they first turned down the building when it was offered. But, that was when the Marsh building was the big hope for the Tech Center. However, that building is rapidly falling into disrepair and still with a price tag attached to it.
Rhoda also said he has the agreement of all three superintendents from the area that they would be willing to help supply financial help if they can get the property and have it on school property.
“We would like to upgrade all of our athletic facilities in the next three to five years,” said Rhoda. “I can see where we could access that area through the middle school parking lot.”
The cost of the purchase was $40,000.
The board also approved a three-year contract with the Frankfort Police Department to have school resource officers in their buildings. Rhoda added all elementary schools would have two officers in them, while the high school and middle school would have one.
