Markeeta “Markie” Jo Murphy, 75,

Markeeta “Markie” Jo Murphy, 75, of Forest, passed away 8:48 pm Friday October 7, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Willard “Bill” and Josephine (Smith) Carter on August 19, 1947, in Clinton County where she lived for most of her life. On October 11, 1975, she married Michael M. Murphy in her parents’ home, and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2015. They were blessed with 40 years together as husband and wife.

She worked as a photographer at Olin Mills Studio in Kokomo for 5 years and at Waddell’s IGA in Russiaville for several years. She was a Sunday school teacher and youth group leader at Faith Wesleyan Church in Frankfort and dearly loved all of her “kids”. She was a Charter member of Galilean Missionary Baptist Church. In 2000 she became a volunteer in the jail ministry and also began teaching Drug and Alcohol classes through this ministry in Kokomo. From 2002 to 2005 she was the women’s Chaplin and counselor at the Howard County Justice Center. Her main priority was her Lord and her family. Markie had a passion for helping others and was a very caring woman. She housed several foreign exchange students.

She is survived by her daughters, Monica (Scott Blackburn) Murphy-Blackburn, Shannon Akers, Marja, from Finland; sons, Ryan (April) Cox, Lance (Rochelle) Murphy; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Carole (Mike) Murray; son-in-law, Gordon Royer; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Josephine Carter; husband, Mike Murphy; daughter, Jennifer Royer; brother, Chris Carter; and son-in-law, Ted Murphy.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from Noon to 2 pm Thursday October 13, 2022, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, IN 46979. Funeral service will begin at 2 pm on Thursday at the funeral home, with Joe Gifford officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Cemetery in Forest.
