Sharon “Sherry” Kay Palmer

Sharon “Sherry” Kay Palmer, born August 9, 1938, who most recently lived at Clinton House went to her eternal home on January 15, 2023.  She was 84 years old.  Her death was due to heart failure.  At an early age, she became a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Frankfort, IN.  While she will be missed by so many, we are thankful that she is in the arms of our Lord and family.

She was the daughter of the late Seigel & Mildred Palmer of Frankfort, IN.  One sister, Sandra Stevenson, deceased, and a brother-in-law, Don Stevenson, survives, as do three nephews and many admiring cousins scattered throughout the nation.

Some may remember seeing Sherry mounted on her beautiful Palomino, Golden Surprise, with his majestic high-prancing gait delighting folks in local parades.  She and Golden Surprise also were the Starter for the field of harness racing horses held at the Frankfort Fairgrounds.  She not only loved horses, but because of her gentle nature, any animal became her pet.

However, animals weren’t her only passion.  Gregarious, kind, and caring best described her when it came to people also.  She kept in touch, usually writing 10-15 letters a week to relatives and friends, and always remembered their birthdays.  Early in her life, she enjoyed finding relatives by helping her parents work on genealogy.  She continued throughout her Christian life to demonstrate compassion to all.  She knitted well over 120 afghans, towels, and dish cloths to be given by her church to those in need and also gifted them to lucky relatives.  Even though confined to a wheelchair later in life, she never lost her enthusiasm for life.  She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily routine. Her pleasant personality and smile was contagious to everyone she met.  She took an interest in people; not only did she know her caregivers’ names, but also their children’s names.  She enjoyed doing word search puzzles.

To honor Sharon, who made the most of wherever she was in life with such a compassionate heart, it seems only right in lieu of flowers to request donations be sent in her memory to:  https://www.heart.org/en/affiliates/indiana/indianapolis (envelopes available at the funeral home) or to Samaritan’s Purse at https://www.samaritanspurse.org or by mail to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone NC 28607.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 11:00 am until the beginning of the funeral service at 12:00 pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.gendafuneralhome.com.
