Burl H. Tharp, 89, Kirklin, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Compassus Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born December 18, 1933, in Nady, AR to James W. and Maddie (Hughes) Tharp, Sr. He married Patty Goodnight, March 12, 1963, and she survives.
Burl was a graduate of Gilette High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a machinist at E & R Manufacturing in Kirklin for over 36 years until his retirement in 1998. He also enjoyed tree trimming and removal on the side. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the Frankfort Antique Tractor Club. He was a man that loved to care and help others. He had a heart of gold and was a family man. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandkids.
Along with his wife of 60 years, Burl is survived by his children, Randy Walker; Kevin (Terri) Tharp; Kenny (Mary) Walker; siblings, J.W. (Shirley) Tharp, Anniece Shelburn, Carroll Tharp, Martha (Garry) Beecher, Joseph Tharp; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Brian, Robert, and James Tharp; and siblings, Jeanette Menard, Russell Tharp, Paul Tharp and Shirley Abraham.
Visitation will be held, Monday, July 24, 2023, from 11am until 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at Oak Hill Cemetery.
