An accidental shooting in Kokomo resulted in the death of a man and preliminary charges of criminal recklessness and involuntary manslaughter for the suspect Thursday evening.
On Oct. 10, just after 7:30 p.m., Kokomo Police Department officers were reportedly dispatched to 319 W. Markland St. for reports of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers reported that Henry Clayton, 37, had sustained a gunshot wound, and preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that Clayton had been showing a handgun to Perry Reyes, 31, inside the residence prior to the shooting.
Officers reported that during the interaction, Reyes allegedly pointed the handgun at Clayton and pulled the trigger while believing the handgun was empty, resulting in the gunshot wound. Clayton was reportedly transported to a local hospital before being flown to Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis where he succumbed to his injuries.
Reyes was arrested and preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and involuntary manslaughter.
The case is still an active investigation. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
