The City of Delphi announced that the Wabash Erie Canal Bridge in the 900 Block of North Washington Street in Delphi has officially reopened as of 11:53 a.m. today, Nov. 13.
The bridge was initially closed for the Delphi Water Department to repair the 10-inch water main over the weekend, but during excavation, the crews discovered that the 10-inch cast-iron pipe that was originally installed in 1962 has developed a fracture.
Due to the discovery, the bridge was closed for an extended period as an inspection was performed to ensure the safety of the traveling public in the area and has since been reopened.
The project was overseen by Delphi Water Department, Delphi Police Department, Carroll County Highway Department, Carroll County Commissioners and Butler Fairman and Seufert.
