Green Meadows Salutes Service & Community With Veteran’s Day Program

Article by Madeline Richardson

Green Meadows celebrated its annual Veteran’s Day program with a moving tribute, bringing together students, staff, and over 150 community attendees. This cherished event, led by the school’s 4th-grade students and the Green Meadows Choir, is a powerful reminder of respect and gratitude for those who have served our nation. Student Council members played a significant role, narrating the program and contributing to meaningful elements like reciting “In Flanders Fields” and describing the “Soldier’s Table” display, also known as the “Missing Man’s” Table.

Music teacher Dan Troyer says the event is about more than honoring veterans – it’s about teaching students the significance of community and unity. “Every year, it is fun to watch the kids perform the ‘Armed Forces Medley’ and see their reactions as Veterans stand for recognition as they’re singing,” Troyer shared. “There is always a unique connection made when the kids see face-to-face all the men and women in our community that we’ve talked about as we prepare for this performance.”

Green Meadows Media Specialist Dan Miller reflected on the importance of respect embedded in the program: “This program is well attended because of the importance we place on students showing respect to those that have served for us. That can be seen not only in the performance itself but also in how the students exit silently at the end of the program after Taps has been played.” This silent departure is a poignant moment that reinforces the solemnity and significance of the event.

Special thanks go to the Green Meadows team, including Dan Miller, Dan Troyer, and 5th-grade teacher Destiney Serrano, for their dedication to making this program a success. From rehearsals to student leadership development, their hard work ensures that this tradition continues to inspire and unite our community each year.
