The Red Barn Summer Theatre has announced the official line-up of productions for their 57th season with multiple comedies designed to spark laughter across audiences.
The Barn announced that the first show will be “Leading Ladies” by Ken Ludwig, which stands as a farce where two broke British actors choose to impersonate an elderly woman’s lost nieces in an attempt to inherit her fortune.
The second show will bring back the high-end production feel to the Barn as a clever comedy fresh from Broadway known as “The Cottage” by Sandy Rustin. “The Cottage” is packed with endless laughs and hilarious twists that lead to a happy ending for those involved in a tale of infidelity.
The third show will be the titular musical that excites the community every year, and this year, the musical will take the form of “Xanadu,” the hilarious, Tony-nominated parody of the 1980’s Olivia Newton John cult film. The production begins with a beautiful Greek goddess descending from Mount Olympus to inspire a young artist, which spirals into comedy and musicality, featuring music by Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra, including “Strange Magic” and “Evil Woman” amongst others.
Red Barn Artistic Director Michael Taylor commented about the upcoming season at the Red Barn, stating that he is “excited to welcome back fan-favorite faces to the Red Barn stage.”
The season will run from June 11 through July 20 this year, and online ticket sales will kick off on May 1.
“(I) can’t wait to share these fun-loving, creative, chaotic characters with our audiences,” Taylor said. “(It will be a) summer full of laughs, memories and beautiful sunsets under Indiana skies.”
