From Stress to Trauma: Supporting the Social and Emotional Needs of Youth Training Session Set

According to the KIDS COUNT® in Indiana 2017 Data Book, children in families with high levels of stress are twice as likely as their peers to be disengaged in school and four times as likely to have behavioral or emotional problems. Past or current trauma affects an increasing number of children. Trauma impacts children’s neurological functioning, influences their behavior and sometimes leads to mental health diagnoses. To support these children in a meaningful way, adults must have an understanding of the effect that stress and trauma can have on the children in their lives.

The Indiana Youth Institute and COACH Kids of Clinton County are hosting a special training session to help caring adults in the community learn about how stress and trauma can impact a young person’s social and emotional health and development. The session is on Tuesday, January 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Community Room at the Community Schools of Frankfort at 2400 East Wabash Street in Frankfort.

Skye Berger, chief encouragement officer and executive creative coach at Door Opener Academy, Skye Berger Group LCC, will present the session. Skye has more than ten years of experience as a consultant, coach, speaker and trainer. Her background includes child welfare and mental health, facilitation and program development. Skye has reached youth and families nationwide through keynote presentations and training on leadership, renewal, teen parenting and transition-age youth.

As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, the panel and lunch are free, but reservations are required. Attendees may RSVP by going to www.iyi.org/calendar. Please contact IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones at[email protected] for registration issues.
