Rev. Ernest R. Batman, 98, of Frankfort, passed away on February 6, 2026 at The Crossings at Noblesville, Indiana. He was born May 24, 1927 in Crawford County, Indiana to Ernest Martin & Corda Maria (Wisemen) Batman. He married Ada Mae Johnson on July 10, 1948 and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2014.

Rev. Batman was a 1945 graduate of New Salisbury High School in New Salisbury, Indiana, a 1951 graduate of Frankfort Pilgrim College, Frankfort, Indiana, 1951 graduate of Taylor University, Upland, Indiana, and a 1963 graduate of Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, receiving his MA. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country from 1946-1947.
Rev. Batman taught public school in Tipton County and was a substitute teacher in the Indianapolis school system for seven years. A longtime member of the Wesleyan Church, he retired after 44 years serving the Pilgrim Holiness & The Wesleyan Church. He had pastored in Marion, Windfall, Indianapolis & Kokomo. He was Superintendent of the Indiana Central District for 17 years and was a delegate to the General Conference of the Wesleyan Church 8 times.
Rev. Batman is survived by his children, Ronald (Marlene) Batman of Madison, IN, Barbara (Oliver) Howe of Indianapolis, IN, Mark (Felicia) Batman of Nashville, IN, Kevin (Teresa) Batman of Greer, SC, Beth (Jeff) Gormong of Noblesville, IN, sister, Velma Snider of Franklin, TN, grandchildren, Carissa (Evan) Hawkins, SaraBeth (Nicholas) Krudy, Michael Colter, Luke (Elizabeth) Batman, Emily (Kenneth) Cox, Matthew (Sara) Batman, Benjamin Batman, Bradley (Lauren) Batman, Bailey “Joy” Batman, Braden Batman, Jaena Gormong, Johanna Kelsey Gormong, Jessica Gormong, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Kent R. Batman, sisters, Thelma Batman, Jewell Howe and brother, Wayne Batman.
Visitation will be Friday, February, 13, 2026 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Wesleyan Church, 11721 Olio Road, Fishers, Indiana, 46037. Dr. Jim Lo and Dr. Jo Anne Lyon will officiate. Burial will be Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Kraft Graceland Cemetery, in New Albany, IN.
