The Frankfort Middle School Science Olympiad team is headed to the state competition after a strong performance at the Science Olympiad Wildcard Tournament.

Earlier this season, FMS competed at the regional Science Olympiad event on February 28. Frankfort students earned four first-place finishes and four second-place finishes across their events, helping the team place third overall. That finish earned an invitation to the Wildcard Tournament held March 14 at Purdue Northwest, where select teams from regional competitions compete for another chance to qualify for state. At the Wildcard event, the Frankfort team placed second, securing a spot in the state competition on March 28.

Science Olympiad competitions include 23 events that cover a wide range of STEM topics aligned with Indiana’s science standards. Teams of up to 15 students compete in pairs across different events, and overall team standings are determined by the combined scores from those competitions. Success requires students to apply knowledge from multiple areas of science while working together as a team.

The Science Olympiad program at Frankfort Middle School is still in its early years, but continues to grow. The school’s first team competed in the spring of 2024 with eight members. Participation expanded to a full roster of 15 students last year and again this season. The program gives FMS students opportunities to apply what they learn in the classroom while exploring interests in science, engineering, and problem-solving.

The Community Schools of Frankfort congratulates the team on a successful season and looks forward to seeing them represent the district at the state competition.
