Richard A. “Butch” McCoy, 76, of Frankfort, passed away July 6, 2026 in his home.  He was born on October 12, 1949 in Howard County to Ernest and Helen (Cunningham) McCoy.  He married Gayla Louks on July 1, 1972 and she survives.

Butch was a 1969 graduate of Clinton Central High School and served in the United States Army National Guard.  He was a lifelong farmer, had worked for Keystone Co-Alliance, and retired as Assistant Fire Chief after 20 years of service to the Michigantown Fire Station.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being outdoors – raising pigs, fishing, and camping.  He also enjoyed watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke.

Surviving along with his wife, Gayla, are his sons: Robert (Brandi) McCoy and Jeremy McCoy, grandchildren: Lane (Haleigh) McCoy, Austin McCoy, Kynsey McCoy, and Kaden McCoy, along with six great-grandchildren: Corbin, Liam, Beau and Luke McCoy and Ross and Brax Milner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson Colt McCoy.

In accordance with Butch’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held 2-4 p.m. on August 1, 2026 at 7710 North County Rd. 400 East, Frankfort, IN 46041.  Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S.
