Zionsville Police Department Awarded Grant to Create Hope Kits for REACH Unit

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (October 7, 2026) — The Zionsville Police Department has been awarded a $500 grant from the Boone County Health Department to create 100 Hope Kits for individuals served through the department’s REACH Unit.

The REACH (Resources, Evaluating, Assisting in Community Health) Unit is ZPD’s co-responder behavioral health unit, connecting individuals with mental health, behavioral health, substance use and other community resources.

An important part of the program occurs after the initial police response, when members of the REACH Unit follow up with individuals to help them navigate available services and support.

Detective Amanda Beam, who leads the REACH Unit, applied for the Boone County Health Department grant with the idea of adding something tangible to those conversations.

Hope Kits will include stress-relieving items such as stress balls, adult coloring books and other practical tools that can provide immediate relief during stressful moments. The kits will accompany community resource information provided by the REACH Unit.

“Sometimes it can be difficult to start a conversation about available resources when someone is already dealing with a stressful situation,” said Beam. “My hope is that these kits give individuals something useful in the moment while also helping us start a conversation about the resources and support available to them.”

ZPD plans to assemble the 100 Hope Kits and begin distributing them during REACH follow-ups in the coming weeks.
