One of the mainstays in the Clinton County Courthouse over the years will be noticeably absent as long-time Clinton County Commissioners secretary Theresa Martin is retiring from her position after 26 years.
“I’m excited to start my new life in Florida with my family,” said Martin at a reception held in her honor Friday at the Clinton County Courthouse. “But, I’m also sad to have to leave the county after 26 years. It’s just the idea I may never see some of these people again. It’s hard.”
When asked about some of her favorite memories, Martin said there’s been so many that she can’t count them all.
“We just had so many good times here,” said Martin. “We go to a lot of conferences and everybody relaxes and is just their selves. It’s just been a great, great 26 years.”
Current Clinton County Commissioners’ President Josh Uitts was asked how will they replace Martin.
“We’re not going to be able to replace Theresa,” said Uitts. “We’ll have somebody fill that position, but they certainly won’t be able to replace her.”
Uitts added Martin was a big help to him when he first came started.
“She helped me a lot when I first came in the office and I’m sure she’s done that with countless other Commissioners she’s seen come and go over the years,” he said. “She’s really provided the continuity this office needed and provided a source of stability.”
Jerri Sexton has been hired to replace Martin, who sid she has the upmost confidence in her replacement.
“I think she’ll do a great job,” said Martin. “I hope everyone is just patient with her and gives her a chance.”
In addition to her duties as the secretary for the Commissioners, Martin has also been serving as secretary for the Clinton County Fair Council.
“I’ve absolutely loved my jobs,” said Martin.
