The AARP Tax Aide program is offering free assistance for low to moderate income and elderly taxpayers beginning February 5. Most returns are electronically filed. All volunteers assisting with taxes must pass a test to be certified preparers.
Tax assistance is available in the Wesley Manor Social Center (Ground floor) on Wednesdays beginning February 5. Sessions at Wesley Manor will continue on each Wednesday through March 25 by appointment. Call 656-2111 to schedule an appointment between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Wesley Manor. Wesley Manor is located at 1555 N Main Street in Frankfort. Taxpayers should use the Chapel Entrance (stairs) from the south parking area, or the Main Entrance on the teardrop (elevator). Only handicap parking is available on the teardop.
Tax assistance is also available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays beginning February 6 and continuing through April 9 at the Frankfort Neighborhood Center, 259 S Third Street in Frankfort. Appointments are not needed at the Neighborhood Center.
Taxpayers must bring a government-issued picture ID, and social security card or information verifying the social security number, for each person on their tax return. Also, bring wage earnings (W-2’s), interest statements from banks, pension statements, last year’s tax returns, property tax statement, record of rent paid, and any other information on expenses and income. Those who purchased health insurance through the Marketplace must bring their form 1095A.
