Inside INdiana Business is reporting seven Hoosier airports and the Indiana Department of Transportation have received support for projects from the Federal Aviation Administration. Funding through the Airport Improvement Program will be used for infrastructure work including runways, terminals and firefighting and snow removal equipment. Nearly $660 million was distributed throughout the country in the most recent cycle.
The U.S. Department of Transportation, which oversees the FAA says the AIP funding is distributed based on activity levels and project needs.
Indiana airports receiving grants include:
- Anderson Municipal Airport-Darlington Field – more than $2.7 million for runway rehabilitation
- Fort Wayne International Airport – more than $5.4 million for runway rehabilitation
- Gary/Chicago International Airport – $4.75 million for runway rehabilitation
- Eagle Creek Airpark in Indianapolis – more than $2.8 million for taxiway construction
- Kokomo Municipal Airport – $360,000 for taxiway rehabilitation
- Indianapolis Regional Airport in McCordsville – more than $860,000 for apron rehabilitation
- Paoli Municipal Airport – $832,500 to extend the runway
- Indiana State Department of Transportation – $ 182,000 to update the state’s system plan study
