Albertson Named New City Attorney

Back in late August, Frankfort City Attorney Les Bergum announced he was retiring from his position effective at the end of 2022.

Both the Frankfort City Council and Board of Works were told by Frankfort Judy Sheets that local attorney Alicia Albertson would be taking his place on January 1, 2023. Albertson also handles the attorney work for the Utilities Service Board.

“Les’ last day will be December 31, 2022,” said Sheets. “As bad as I hate to see him go, I really tried hard to get him to stay. But, I knew he was ready to retire. I think Alicia will do a great job for us and I’m excited for her to come on board with us.”

In other news, the city council gave the official go-ahead for Phase III of the Maish Road project. This phase will go from Haven Avenue to Kelley Road.

“We have to have the paperwork in and we’re getting all the support letters ready,” said Sheets, who also said the majority of the work would be done in 2027 or 2028.

That paperwork has to be to the state for its approval by Monday, December 12.

Also, the board of works approved a new random drug testing for full-time employees beginning in 2023.

“We’re going to use the new Workman’s Comp Management Services that has just come into being on the west side of Frankfort,” said Sheets. “We had been struggling to get somebody. We met with them and they agreed to do it for us.”

Sheets added the drug tests will be done quarterly.
