Andrew Day, a lifelong Frankfort resident and current Utilities Auditor for Frankfort Municipal Utilities, announced his candidacy for City Clerk-Treasurer of Frankfort today. Day is running on a platform built around dependability, integrity, and accountability, under the campaign theme “A New Day for Frankfort.”
A graduate of Frankfort High School, Day went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University. He began his career on the production floor at Frito-Lay’s Frankfort facility and worked his way up to raw materials coordinator, a role in which he oversaw production materials and coordinated a team of employees across shifts for the entire plant.
Since 2017, Day has focused his career on public service as the Utilities Auditor for Frankfort Municipal Utilities and the Secretary of the Frankfort Municipal Utility Service Board. In this role, he is responsible for managing utility funds, preparing financial statements, and overseeing audit preparations. After stepping into the auditor position following a vacancy, he promptly updated the Utilities’ records and outstanding reports. This accomplishment reflects his commitment to the approach he intends to bring to the Clerk-Treasurer’s office.
“Whether I’m working in municipal finance, coaching young people, or serving my community, I try to lead by being prepared, dependable, honest, and willing to hold myself to the same standards I expect from others,” Day said.
Day said his campaign centers on bringing transparency and fiscal responsibility to Frankfort’s finances. He wants the city’s financial reports to be clear enough for any resident to read and trust, its accounts reconciled and current, and its relationship with the State Board of Accounts strong enough to protect the city’s bond ratings and borrowing power.
“I want to elevate this office to a higher standard — full accountability, full transparency, full dependability,” Day said. “Residents deserve to know their tax dollars are being tracked accurately and spent wisely, and I want Frankfort’s books to be an example other cities look to.”
If elected, Day said his early priorities would be to bring all city accounts and reconciliations up to date and to ensure the city is fully prepared for its state audits. He plans to be involved with organizations such as Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (AIM) and statewide Clerk-Treasurer conferences to stay current on best practices in municipal finance.
Day also emphasized that he intends to treat the office with professionalism and respect, working collaboratively with the Mayor, City Council, and fellow elected officials to preserve Frankfort’s traditional values while moving the city forward to meet the needs of its citizens. Many don’t realize that the elected office of Clerk-Treasurer runs the city’s fiscal matters alongside and informs the work of the Mayor, city departments, Council, and Board of Works. This office’s important role as a standalone office exists to preserve financial integrity.
“The Mayor and the Clerk-Treasurer are equal partners in this work,” Day said. “My job is to be the professional, non-partisan source of accurate information the city can lean on, so every decision about Frankfort’s future is made with the facts in hand.”
Day’s financial stewardship extends into his church community as a member of the United Pentecostal Church. When the pastor, who serves as Indiana District Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church International, recognized the need for greater accuracy and a more efficient financial system, Day stepped in to help. He developed the accounting system that the organization still relies on today. Day continues to manage financial records regularly, ensuring the organization’s accounts for the Indiana chapter are accurate and up to date.
Day, who also serves as head coach of the Frankfort High School varsity boys soccer program, said his motivation for running is rooted in building a city that his own children, and the next generation of Frankfort families, will want to call home.
“I’ve watched a lot of friends move away over the years, and I want that to change,” Day said. “I want my kids to grow up in a community that’s thriving, well-run, and something we can all be proud of, so they choose to stay and raise their families here. That starts with running this office well so that the Mayor, Council, and Board of Works have the information they need to make efficient decisions about our future.”
