Ann Vogler Mitchell

Ann Vogler Mitchell, 87, of Peoria, IL, formerly of Frankfort, IN, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Peoria.

She was born on July 3, 1930 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Earnest & Pearl Vogler.  Ann was raised by her cousins, Dr. Varner & Maryl Saylor in Zionsville, IN who opened their home to her family during the depression era.  Ann was fortunate to have their support during these trying times in our country.  She married John E. Mitchell on March 18, 1951 in Zionsville, IN.  Ann & John had three children together.  He passed July 18, 1993 in Frankfort, IN.

Ann is survived by her Daughter:  Pamela A. Mitchell Schubach of Peoria, IL;  Sons:  John V. Mitchell of Tega Cay, SC and Joseph E. (Janet) Mitchell of Noblesville, IN;  9 Grandchildren: Arnold Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Charles (Sheena) Mitchell, Beth (Mike) Mitchell-McCoy, Lydia (Josh) Gross, Katie Mitchell, Samantha Schubach, and Spencer Schubach;  9 Great-Grandchildren;  Brother:  Francis (Sue) Vogler of North Carolina; and Sister:  Helen Rose (Eley) Hundley of North Carolina.

Ann was a homemaker all her life and a very special partner of her late husband who was a farmer, politician, and newspaper man in Indiana requiring many meetings, social events, and conferences.

Ann was very involved with her two churches, St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort, IN and First United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL.  She was a devoted choir member with an amazing soprano voice – She had a gift.

She was a world traveler, accompanying her husband to places like Africa, Europe, Hong Kong, Turkey, Egypt plus many more.  Most trips were through the newspaper association, where many friends were made across the Midwest.

Ann was also an avid bridge player and participated in several clubs in Frankfort and Peoria.  Bridge was a game that brought her the opportunity to socialize, as well as an endeavor to try and master the game itself.  She was a member of the YWCA of Peoria, IL, where she was one of the ‘Pool Ladies’ who supported the YWCA through their volunteer efforts along with their daily swim sessions and lunch gatherings afterward.  They were a very dedicated group who supported each other and still try to get together for lunch.

She was a beautiful woman both inside and out.  She will be truly missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1951 Wilshire Drive, Frankfort, IN  46041.  Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  Rev. Phil Lake will officiate.  Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made in Ann’s honor to the St. Matthew United Methodist Church with envelopes available at the service.  Archer-Weston Funeral & Cremation Center, Frankfort is honored to assist the Mitchell family.  You are invited to visit archerweston.com where you may order flowers and leave a condolence for the Ann’s family.
