Anna N. Nice, 87, of West Lafayette, passed away on January 26, 2024.
Anna was born in a little village called Heinzendorf in Czechoslovakia to Paul and Berta Neubauer. It was a very peaceful life until the age of six when school started and she had to learn all of the do’s and don’ts of the Hitler regime. After the war, she and her family were evicted from their home and placed in an encampment run by the new political regime. At the end of 1946, they were expelled and transported to Germany, where she grew up in the much larger industrial town called Hof/Saale in the northern part of Bavaria. Life was good there.
In 1959, Anna married Phillip E. Nice in Hof and immigrated to the United States. Their first child, Katrina, was born in 1965, and in 1966, their son, Paul, joined the family. They were always the center of their parents’ lives.
In 1972, Anna became a registered nurse at Purdue University and worked at Home Hospital in various positions for about 25 years. In 1993, she began teaching nursing at Ivy Tech Community College, from which she retired in 2009. Being a mother, wife and nurse were all very rewarding to Anna.
In 1983, granddaughter Niccole was born; what a blessing she was. She gave Phillip and Anna a great-granddaughter, Addreanna, in 2020. Anna was blessed.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and older brother, Alfred. Surviving Anna are her daughter, Katrina (Michael) Masterson of Seeley Lake, MT; her son, Paul of Tawas City, MI; granddaughter, Niccole Cox, and great-granddaughter, Addreanna Hobgood, both of Seeley Lake, MT; sister, Maria (Dietrich) Fromme; and several cousins, nieces and nephews all living in Europe.
Following Anna’s wishes, no services will be held. Day & Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort are assisting the family. Messages of condolence to the family are welcomed at www.dayandgenda.com.
