Sugar Creek school closed in 1959, Many of the alumni have met every year for many years. This year the annual event was bittersweet.
President of the alumni Warren Crawford has held that position for over 20 years, Crawford gave prayer before a delicious dinner and desserts were prepared and served by The Dorcus Society of Kirklin Christian Church.
A delicious pineapple punch was made and served by Phil and Marlita Waggoner.
There was a candle lighting ceremony for deceased alumni. The past two years there was no Alumni held due to covid. 21 alumni members have passed in the past couple years and were remembered in the ceremony. Each name was read allowed. Then the announcement was discussed and decided that this would be the last Sugar Creek Alumni Dinner where there were 28 in attendance.
Table decorations were provided by Evelyn Ploughe who enjoyed being in charge of the decorations every year. The decorations were won by alumni by ticket numbers given out. This year they were crystal bells with ribbon of blue and yellow. ( Sugar Creek Crickets school colors) .
Instead of the entertainment that normally was involved in the program the alumni took turns telling some pretty good stories and enjoyed the company of each other. A good time was had by all.
The younger generation will never know about Sugar Creek school of Pickard, Indiana since it has been gone so long. But Saturday night some good stories were told and great memories were shared.
