Area Leaders Discuss Potential New Hospital to Meet Needs

Leaders from Clinton County, City of Frankfort and Indiana University Health Frankfort are discussing a new project plan that could result in a new, replacement hospital facility in Frankfort.

Representatives from County and City government are collaborating with IU Health leaders to agree upon economic development incentives that would help make the new hospital facility possible, lead to significant improvements in the quality of life for area residents and further solidify IU Health’s presence as an important healthcare provider in the community.

“Over the last few years, County and City leaders have worked hard to develop a community infrastructure that makes Frankfort and Clinton County a great place to live, work and start a business,” said Alan Dunn, president, Clinton County Council.  “Our discussions with IU Health to build a new hospital in our community are an extension of this overall strategy to include a stronger health care infrastructure for our citizens. At a time when many small communities are struggling to keep local hospitals open, this new facility will be yet another strong signal that Frankfort and Clinton County are strong, vibrant, and open for business.”

“For as long as anyone can remember there has been a hospital here in Clinton County,” said Josh Uitts, president, Clinton County Board of Commissioners. “It is a bedrock of our community.  Not only has it served our resident’s medical needs, it has also provided many of us a place to work and a place to learn. My colleagues in the Commissioner’s office and I firmly believe that all of the citizens here in Clinton County deserve to have a modern facility operated by the finest provider in the medical field.  It is with great excitement that we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Indiana University Health to make sure that having a hospital remains part of the foundation of our community for generations to come. “

“Access to quality health care is a foundational element of any community,” said Mayor Chris McBarnes. “In order for Frankfort to grow and thrive we must offer first class amenities and access to the best healthcare in Indiana. The opportunity IU Health has provided to our community would provide residents an excellent medical facility with top notch care from the best team in Indiana. I place my full support behind this most important initiative.”

“Frankfort is on the move and there is no slowing down now,” said City Council President, Jim Moyer.  “As we work to create high paying jobs for our residents and attract more families to relocate to Frankfort, we must provide the essential elements which create a great quality of life. Partnering with IU Health in the building of a new hospital facility fits perfectly into this mission. The new hospital facility would raise the standard of excellence in our community and I believe it is vital we accomplish this mission.”

“We look forward to discussing the possibility of building a modern medical complex that can provide area residents with the primary and specialty care they need close to home with additional access to highly skilled care in our statewide network,” said IU Health Frankfort President, Kelly Braverman.

The County, City and IU Health plan to hold several meetings over the course of the next several weeks to agree upon the economic development incentive package terms IU Health needs to make the project a reality.  Following agreement upon those terms, IU Health would seek all of the zoning and other approvals needed to construct the new facility.  The County, City and IU Health will provide additional information to the community as that information becomes available.
