At approximately 7 a.m. Thursday, Indiana State Police Detectives served a search warrant at a residence on the west side of Indianapolis. The search warrant was a result of investigative leads and the examination of evidence in this case. During the search warrant a person of interest was taken into custody and transported to the Indiana State Police Post. At 8 p.m. Thursday, 28 year old Antonio King of Indianapolis was arrested on the preliminarily charge of murder.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine formal charges. All crimes mentioned in this release are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in the court of law.
The deceased person was identified as 24 year old Malik Phillips of Indianapolis. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Indiana State Police was contacted by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reference an unconscious gunshot victim who was driven to a medical facility on west 38th Street. Preliminary investigation by IMPD determined the shooting occurred on I-65 near Lafayette Road, the investigation was turned over to the Indiana State Police. The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and pronounced deceased a short time later.
The deceased person was a passenger in a dark purple Toyota Scion and shots were allegedly fired from another vehicle. Investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the shooting.
