Bertie Blanche Campbell, 94, formerly of Michigantown, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at her home in Lebanon, Ohio.
She was born August 26, 1923, in Ripley County, to Hiram Lee and Elizabeth “Izzy” Chambers Whisman, being the 15th child of 18. On August 4, 1951, she married Charles Edward Campbell in Madison; he passed away on December 18, 1994. Together they had two children, Gary Lee Campbell and Karen Felice Trapp. They also opened their hearts and home to several foster children.
Bertie lived in rural Michigantown for over 40 years before moving to Frankfort in 2000. In 2009, she moved to Ohio to be with her daughter. Bertie spent most of her life as a homemaker and enjoyed sharing her home with family and friends. Her life was centered around church, family, and her home. She and Charles were very creative and shared a common love of art and music. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Frankfort where she served on the board and taught Sunday school. Bertie was also active in WCTU, Gideon Auxiliary, Right to Life, and the Art League of Clinton County.
Surviving Bertie are her children, Gary (Anne) Campbell, of Antioch, and Karen (Michael) Trapp, of Lebanon, OH; sister, Ruth Overton, of Milton, KY; one granddaughter, Alexis Trapp; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Michaela, and Lauren.
In addition to her husband, Bertie is preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, and eight sisters.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the funeral home with Rev. Ernest Batman and Pastor Alan Downing officiating. Burial will follow in Whiteman Cemetery near Michigantown.
