The Frankfort Community Public Library (FCPL) will host best-selling author John David Anderson in its Skanta Theatre on March 7 at 1 p.m. John David Anderson is the critically-acclaimed author of more than a dozen novels for young people, including Ms. Bixby’s Last Day, Posted, Granted, Stowaway, One Last Shot, and The Greatest Kid in the World. A resident of Indianapolis, he spends his days hiking, biking, building with Lego, and encouraging young people to read and share their own stories.
Many middle grade readers from Clinton County schools are familiar with Anderson’s books since Stowaway was a Battle of the Books (BOB) read this year. Anderson’s visit will be the third time FCPL has hosted a BOB author for students to meet. FCPL’s Teen Services Assistant Jessica Sloan is excited about this opportunity to connect Clinton County youth with a well-known author. She states, “I really like his writing style. He is good at writing characters that are lovable but flawed, which is relatable to middle grade and adult readers alike. It will be exciting to hear about the process of creating these characters.”
This conversation with the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award honoree is part of the Indiana Authors Awards Speaker Program, powered by Indiana Humanities and made possible through the generosity of Glick Philanthropies. Indiana Humanities awarded 30 nonprofit organizations (libraries, schools, museums, etc.) the opportunity to host an honoree of the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards. The Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Author Awards celebrate the best books by Indiana authors written in eight different categories and published during the previous two years. Winners receive a $5,000 prize, a physical award featuring Indiana limestone and the opportunity to make a $500 gift to an Indiana public library. Winning and shortlisted books were selected by panels of judges, including formers winners, writers, educators, scholars, local bookstore owners and librarians.
