Betty E. Smith, 93, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Wesley Manor Retirement Community. She was born December 2, 1925 in Highland Park, Michigan to Elmer and Thelma (Morgan) Harrer. Betty received her bachelor’s degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and completed her graduate work at Butler University where she received her master’s degree. She married Frederick Smith on June 28, 1953. He preceded her in death December 20, 2003.
Betty worked for the Community Schools of Frankfort, teaching 2nd grade for 29 years with 25 of those years teaching at Kyger Elementary until she retired in 1990. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Clinton County Retired Teachers Association, the First Wesleyan Church in Frankfort and a former member of Hope United Methodist Church. A major highlight in Betty’s life was when she accepted God at the age of seven. She told everyone she met that she served an awesome God and that He wants everyone to know how much He loves them and how much He wants to be involved in their lives.
Betty is survived by her sons, Frederick K. Smith Jr. of Frankfort, Victor Smith of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jeremy, Katelyn and Patrick Smith; and several great grandchildren including Victoria and Cory Smith.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beth Smith O’Donnell; two brothers, Richard and Kenneth Harrer; sister, Thelma Jean Sutton; grandson, Andrew Smith; and a niece, Sandra Harrer.
Visitation will be held from 1pm until the time of the service at 3pm Friday, December 14, 2018 at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
