Board of Works Adopts Paid Parenting Leave Policy

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a resolution Monday night to adopt a paid parenting leave policy and to provide paid leave for certain qualified city employees.

“I’m really excited about it,” said Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets. “It’ll run concurrently with their FMLA and they’re able to have that time off and after that, it’s their option if they want to use their vacation, sick or anything like that. It’s a good benefit for our employees.”

Sheets said mothers have 30 days off and fathers will get 15. She added this runs on consecutive calendar days.

The BOW elected to hold off on a request from Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe, who had a request to turn Doyal Street into a two-day street. Currently, the street runs one-way south and encompasses two blocks.

“Anytime we make changes like that it’s a Board of Works decision,” said Forsythe.

Forsythe added it has been a one-way street since 1980.
