The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a bid of $53,420 from Triangle Asphalt Paving Company of Lebanon to pave South Columbia Street from Walnut to Armstrong on Wednesday.
“We’re able to do this because our bids came in low on our 14 other projects,” said Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes. “We’re going to utilize the savings and work with the county to do some nice chip and seal on Kelley Road and this project on South Columbia.”
There were a total of three bidders for the project and Triangle’s bid came just less than $3,000 under the next lowest bidder.
In other news, the Clinton County Building Trades program will be building a new house next year at the corner of Main and Barner in Frankfort.
“The Building Trades organization, which is a partnership between our four county schools, has bought that lot,” said McBarnes. “We as a city are helping offset that cost for the purchase of that lot. Our Building Trades will actually go in and be building a brand new home in that neighborhood.”
The new home will be approximately 1,440 square feet, two porches and three bedrooms.
It was also announced the Frankfort Future Leaders Advisory Council is having a meeting to put a proposed mural on a downtown building.
“Community Development Director Annie Bacon and the President of the FFLAC Issac Hunter are going to be meeting with building owners over the next couple of weeks so we hope to know within the month which building that is actually going to go on in the downtown,” said McBarnes. “It’s our goal to unveil it at the Hot Dog Festival this year.”
The Hot Dog Festival is set for July 26 and 27 in downtown Frankfort.
