Bon Air Park to be Home to Kokomo’s Fourth Dog Park

Dogs in the City of Kokomo will soon have another place to run and play safely. Opening later this summer, Bon Air Dog Park (700 E. Fisher St.) will join Mehlig Dog Park (1701 W. Carter St.), Mohr Dog Park (2302 Saratoga Ave.) and Downtown Dog Park (321 S. Main St.) as the fourth city facility for canines.  The new dog park will be equipped with equipment similar to what is in place at the Downtown Dog Park, such as an agility course with a teeter-totter, tunnel-run, and weaving pole. Fencing and the two-gate entrance will be the same as the Downtown Dog Park.

Kokomo Parks Superintendent Torrey Roe said the addition of the dog park at Bon Air was a logical step.

“We tracked the use of a horseshoe pit at the park and realized it was underutilized,” Roe explained. “Converting the space to a dog park will make better use of the space. It will be a great amenity and it will fit perfectly in the residential neighborhood.”

In addition to the new park, Roe said that Mehlig Dog Park, the city’s first facility of its kind, will get some updates and new equipment, including new obstacles, tunnels, and play equipment.
