Boone County legislators are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.
State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville) said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.
“For students who want to make a difference in their communities, there’s no better classroom than the Statehouse,” said Cash, a member of the House Education Committee. “This internship allows young Hoosiers to see firsthand how ideas become policy and how public servants work every day to improve Indiana.”
State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
“Interning with House Republicans gives young Hoosiers practical real-world experience that will benefit them no matter what career path they choose,” Thompson said. “It’s also a great opportunity to build relationships with state and industry leaders that could lead to future employment.”
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Hunter Smith (R-Zionsville)said this spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
“The best way to learn about government and the policy issues impacting Hoosiers is to actively participate,” said Smith, a member of the House Education Committee. “Our interns get to step into the process, work alongside the people making decisions and see the impact of their work firsthand.”
