Boone County Senior Services 10th Annual Art And Photography Contest Deadline Approaches On April 24

The 2024 Boone County Senior Services 10th Annual Art and Photography Contest is seeking entries for the contest by April 24.

Entries will be accepted for painting, where oil, acrylic and watercolor will be judged together, and photography, including natural and computer-enhanced photography. Entries are accepted from those 60 or older who are amateurs or advanced artists and photographers at the Lebanon Public Library at 104 E. Washington St. from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 24.

The artwork will then be displayed at the Lebanon Public Library from April 25 through May 1 with artwork being required to be picked up on Firday morning, May 31 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Any artwork that is not claimed on May 31 will be returned to the Boone County Senior Services Lebanon Office.

A special opening for the Exhibition will be held on Thursday, April 25 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. where the community will be welcomed to meet some of the artists and enjoy a sweet treat.

Art Contest Rules:

  • Entrant must be a resident of Boone County.
  • Only one entry per person will be allowed.
  • No entry fee or pre-registration is required. Paperwork will be completed on the date of entry: Wednesday, April 24 between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Lebanon Public Library.
  • No sale of artwork will be allowed in the building. If an artist is interested in selling their artwork, the library can indicate that on the label and artists may be contacted directly.
  • For this contest, an advanced artist is defined as an artist who has many years of training and has probably been painting for at least 8 years. This may also apply to those who have sold artwork.
  • For this contest, an amateur artist is defined as an artist who has limited training and/or is self-taught and has probably been painting for 7 years or less.
  • First, second and third places may be awarded in each category at the judges’ discretion. Best of show may be awarded as well.
  • If the quality of the artist’s work deems it appropriate for the piece to be moved up to the higher (advanced) category, the judges may do so.
  • Entries must have been done (painted/photo taken) in 2021, 2022, 2023 or 2024.

Display Guidelines:

  • Paintings and photographs must be securely fixed with a wire ready for hanging.
  • The wire used for hanging must not extend past the top of the frame.
  • Paintings and photographs must be framed. Matting is optional, but generally adds to the displayed piece so that it looks better for judging.
  • Paintings and photographs (including the frame) must not exceed 30″ x 36″ and be no smaller than 8″ x 10″.

A 1-page artist bio may be submitted as well when the artist checks in on April 24.
