A Boone County community member and involved participant and transit driver for the Boone County Senior Services Inc. placed highly during the annual Transit Roadeo contest.
Doug McDonald, driver and volunteer for Boone County Senior Services, participated in the Indiana Council on Specialized Transportation Roadeo where he placed seventh among a vast pool of participants.
The Roadeo is held as a day-long celebration of driver skills and dedication as contestants prove their ability to maneuver an obstacle course, assist passengers with special needs, perform pre-trip inspections and complete a written test. The winner of the state Roadeo receives a trophy and a chance to participate in the national competition.
While long-time, over 10-year, volunteer McDonald placed seventh, the community of Boone County gathered to celebrate his accomplishments and cheer his name as he raced to a respectable finish.
“Several members of the BCSSI family were there to cheer Doug on, including Stacie, Co-Director of Transportation, and husband Tanner,” the organization released. “Tanner walked away with a prize for best-dressed beach theme.”
During this year’s event, the organizers announced that community members could bring their favorite beach attire for the contest to celebrate the first and second place finishers being awarded an all-expense paid trip to the nationals in West Palm Beach, Florida on June 9.
At least the top three competitors received an award for their sponsoring agency, who received a trophy and a cash prize. Every participating driver also received a certificate, a t-shirt and other gifts.
The Boone County Senior Services Inc. announced that they plan to bring even more drivers in 2025.
