The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent suicide tonight. Boone County Deputies were dispatched to 1145 W. Blubaugh Avenue, near Thorntown, around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday evening reference a possible gunshot victim. The victim, Thomas E. Smith 56, of Thorntown was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Smith is a retired officer from Frankfort Police Department, where he served that community for over 30 years. Smith was currently employed with the Lebanon School Police Department where he started his service in June of 2018.
The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Boone County Coroner’s Office, continue to investigate this incident.
