Previous Report:

The Clinton County Boys & Girls Club Teen Center is hosting the 2nd Annual End of School Year Teen Dance on Saturday, May 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club at 1100 W. Green St. in Frankfort for a fun time with friends to kick off the summer.

The dance is open to the public with opportunities to make friends and meet others from different schools while enjoying music from Good Times Professional Audio, enjoying pizza, drinks and snacks and dancing the night away with friends of new and old. The event is open to teenagers between sixth and twelfth grade, including those who recently completed their fifth-grade year. The dance allows all types of dress for the event with some attendees sporting dresses while others prefer a t-shirt and jeans.

Organizer Tavia Helton commented about the event, stating that a large portion of the members of the Teen Center and their friends attend to enjoy the night and explore the amenities of the Boys & Girls Club.

“Last year was really fun,” Helton said. “We had between 30 and 40 kids show up, so it was just a lot of fun.”

The event is open to the public, but attendees will be provided the opportunity to become a member and continue attending the activities and festivities that occur every week at the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center.

“This event is open to any kids whether or not they are registered in our system yet,” Helton said. “If they are interested in becoming a member, they can go ahead and grab that form, fill it out and return it, and then they’ll officially become a member.”

The Teen Center members meet every Monday and Wednesday in the evening for different events, meals and more from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Club. On Friday, the teens are invited to explore another local resource, CORE Community Center, for the Teen Lock-In where the attendees are welcome to utilize the facilities at CORE throughout the night, such as the pool, once renovations are completed, the gym, the indoor track and much more.

Helton expressed that the Teen Center continues to grow after she took the reins a year ago, and she has seen community members from across the county join in on the festivities. Helton continued to express that she expects an influx in attendees from Rossville in the near future as well.

“We have roughly 100 members currently enrolled, and then on any given day on average we get about 10 to 15 kids or so at every meeting,” Helton said. “We do have a few from Rossville. I would say it’s mainly Frankfort and Clinton Prairie right now … and Clinton Central we have a few too, and then we also have some from The Crossing and some that are homeschooled too.”

Helton commented that the meetings and events have helped the teens develop new relationships that they may have never developed without meeting at the Teen Center, and she hopes to continue facilitating the positive interactions that the teens have while attending the weekly meetings and events.

“It’s a really good opportunity for kids to meet other kids in the community that don’t go to the same school,” Helton said. “I’ve definitely witnessed friendships being made that I don’t know otherwise would’ve happened.”

The Teen Center will host numerous other events throughout the year that the members may enjoy, such as visiting local amenities, such as the skating rink and Sapphire Bay, and much more alongside the weekly meetings where the teens have full access to the Boys & Girls Club and are treated to a free meal.

Good Times Professional Audio puts on music and lights for the dance.
